5/18/2006 - Liberty Homes Goes Green

Charlotte, NC – Liberty Homes is out to build the healthiest homes in Charlotte by making the Trane CleanEffectsTM Air Filtration system standard on all of their homes. One may see air filtration systems as an option in higher priced homes; however Liberty has made this significant commitment to quality for primarily first-time homebuyers.

The removal of airborne pollutants makes a Liberty home ideal not just for people with allergies, but also for parents of small children. Liberty President Chip Shelton agrees, “As a parent of two small children myself, I’ve seen the stories about how unhealthy air can trigger asthma as well as early childhood illnesses.”

This new system removes up to 99.98% of airborne allergens down to .3 microns. To give you an idea how fine .3 filtration is, you could fit 14,000 particles of that size on the period at the end of this sentence.

Says Brodie Thompson, Liberty’s Trane representative, “The air quality inside the average home is often worse than the air outside because standard furnace filters aren’t designed to protect homeowners’ health; they’re designed to protect the health of the furnace.”

According to Thompson, standard one inch filters are designed primarily to keep debris like pet hair and feathers from damaging the equipment. They have nothing to do with cleaning the air. So whenever the system is on, it churns up allergens and circulates them throughout the house.

Liberty Vice President Jack Furr sees the Trane CleanEffectsTM Air Filtration systems as a real benefit for his homeowners, “It seems to me that if we can build our homes in a responsible way that makes for a healthier home environment, we should do it. Healthy air shouldn’t be an “option” or an “upgrade.” It should be standard in every home regardless of price. It’s just the responsible way we build our homes.”
